Gp’s asked to recommened CAM practitioners registered with the CNHC

General Practitioners (GP’s) have been asked to only recommend to  patients wishing to try complementary and alternative medicine (CAM),  practitioners who are registered with the Complementary & Natural Healthcare Council (CNHC).

The CNHC is government sponsored and CAM practitioners can volunteer for registration with the council (paying a yearly fee and re-registering annually if accepted). The CNHC’s main function is to provide national standards of competence and practise across all CAM practitioners. If a practitioner is not registered with them it does not mean that they are not qualified, but that the CNHC is not aware of their qualifications, experience or standards of practise.

You can find out more about this, or search for a CNHC registered practitioner on their website http://www.cnhc.org.uk.
